Why Biblical Inner Healing Will Change the Way You Process Past Pain
Share
Hey there, friends. It’s Elizabeth here.
We’ve all been there, that moment when a specific smell, a certain tone of voice, or even just a quiet moment alone sends you spiraling back into a memory you thought you’d buried years ago. Maybe it’s the sting of a rejection, the weight of an old mistake, or the shadow of a trauma that feels like it’s become a permanent part of your DNA.
Most of the time, we try to "cope." we try to "move on." We try to push through by sheer willpower. But if you’re reading this, you probably already know that willpower has its limits. In the world of faith based coaching, we often see people who are doing all the "right" things, praying, reading their Word, going to church, but they still feel stuck in the same emotional loops.
That’s where biblical inner healing comes in. It’s not just a buzzword; it’s a profound shift in how we approach the broken parts of our stories. Today, I want to walk you through why this process is a game-changer for anyone looking for true, lasting freedom.
Moving Beyond Symptom Management
In our modern culture, we are masters of symptom management. If we’re anxious, we find a distraction. If we’re angry, we vent. While these things might provide temporary relief, they don’t actually change the source of the pain.
Imagine you have a weed in your garden. You can mow over it every Saturday, and for a few days, the lawn looks great. But because the root is still there, that weed is going to pop right back up the moment you turn your back. Biblical inner healing is about stopping the "mowing" and starting the "uprooting."
When we engage in spiritual healing and deliverance, we aren't just looking at the behavior (the "weed"). We’re asking the Holy Spirit to show us the root. Why do you feel that way? What lie did you believe about yourself or about God in the moment that pain occurred?

What Is Biblical Inner Healing, Anyway?
Let’s keep it simple. Biblical inner healing is the process of inviting Jesus into the painful memories of our past. It’s the belief that God isn't just interested in your future; He’s deeply concerned with your history.
Traditional therapy is wonderful and has its place, but the key distinction in a biblical approach is the presence of the Healer Himself. Through prayer and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we allow God to speak His truth into the places where we’ve only heard lies.
The goal isn't to erase the memory. You’ll still remember what happened. But through this process, the devastating emotional power of that memory is removed. You can look back at the "breaking" and see the "grace" that was there, or the grace that is healing you now. This is a core pillar of what we do at Grace in the Breaking.
The Power of Renewing Your Mind (Bible Style)
You’ve probably heard the phrase "renewing your mind bible" style, based on Romans 12:2. But how do we actually do it when our brains are wired to keep us in survival mode?
Our brains create "neural pathways" based on our experiences. If you grew up being told you weren't enough, your brain built a literal highway to that thought. Every time you fail, you hop on that highway and go 100 mph toward shame.
Renewing your mind is about paving new roads. But we can't just do it with positive affirmations. We need the truth of God’s Word to act as the construction crew.
- Identify the Lie: "I am unlovable."
- Locate the Root: Where did that start? (A childhood rejection, a breakup?)
- Apply the Truth: What does God say? "I have loved you with an everlasting love." (Jeremiah 31:3)
- Invite the Presence: Ask Jesus to meet you in that original memory.
As a christian life coaching practice, we help you navigate these steps so you aren't doing the heavy lifting alone.

Forgiveness: The Key to the Cell
I know, I know. "Forgiveness" is the word nobody wants to hear when they’ve been deeply hurt. But here is the casual, honest truth: Unforgiveness is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die.
One of the most transformative parts of biblical inner healing is learning how to forgive from the heart. This doesn't mean what they did was okay. It doesn't mean you have to be best friends with them. It means you are releasing them to God’s justice so that you can be free.
Often, we find that we need to forgive people who aren't even sorry. They might not even be alive anymore. But when you process this through a spiritual lens, you realize that your healing isn't dependent on their apology. It’s dependent on your connection to the Father.

Why This Changes Everything
When you start processing pain biblically, your "triggers" lose their teeth. You start to notice that:
- You react differently to stress. Instead of spiraling into panic, you have a foundation of peace.
- Your relationships improve. You stop projecting past hurts onto your current partner, friends, or children.
- Your prayer life shifts. You stop talking at God and start listening to Him.
This is the heart of spiritual coaching. We aren't just trying to make you a "better version" of yourself. We are looking for the version of you that God intended before the world got its hands on you.
