5 Steps How to Pursue Spiritual Healing and Deliverance (Easy Guide for Breaking Unhealthy Cycles)
Share
Have you ever felt like you’re running in circles? You know the feeling: you make a firm decision to change, you pray for strength, and for a few weeks, everything seems fine. But then, a familiar trigger hits, and suddenly you’re right back where you started, dealing with the same anger, the same anxiety, or the same self-sabotaging habit.
It’s exhausting. And if we’re being honest, it can make you feel like your faith isn't "working."
But here is the truth: God doesn't want you to just survive your cycles; He wants you to break them. At Grace in the Breaking, we believe that your "breaking" season isn't the end: it's the place where real transformation begins. Pursuing spiritual healing and deliverance isn't about hype or surface-level encouragement; it’s about a deep, biblically grounded process of renewing your mind and surrendering to the Holy Spirit.
Every Monday morning, we share new teachings to help you navigate these waters. Today, we’re walking through a simple, five-step guide to help you move from pain to purpose.
Understanding Spiritual Healing and Deliverance
Before we dive into the steps, let's clarify what we mean. In the world of faith based coaching, we often see people confuse "getting better" with "being healed."
Spiritual healing is the process where God mends the wounds of your soul: those deep hurts from your past, trauma, or rejection that still dictate how you react today. Deliverance, on the other hand, is about breaking the legal rights the enemy may have in your life due to unconfessed sin, generational patterns, or ungodly soul ties.
When we combine these with renewing your mind bible principles, we create a path for lasting freedom. This isn't a "one and done" event, but a lifestyle of walking in obedience with Jesus.

Step 1: Identify and Name the Cycle
You cannot defeat what you refuse to define. The first step in biblical inner healing is bringing the darkness into the light. Often, we keep our struggles vague because it feels less painful that way. We say, "I'm just a stressed person," instead of saying, "I have a cycle of fear that causes me to manipulate situations."
Ask the Holy Spirit to highlight the specific patterns in your life. Is it a cycle of addiction? A trauma response that makes you shut down? Or perhaps a generational pattern of divorce or poverty?
Practical Action: Write down the top three emotional or behavioral patterns that keep repeating. Don't judge yourself; just observe them with the Holy Spirit. This is the starting point for your christian life coaching journey.
Step 2: The Power of Confession and Repentance
Once the cycle is named, we must take it to the Cross. Confession is simply "agreeing with God" about our situation. If we’ve allowed a cycle of bitterness to take root, we need to confess it as sin: not just a "bad mood."
Repentance is more than just saying "sorry." It’s a literal change of mind and direction. When you repent, you are deciding that you no longer want to live under the authority of that unhealthy cycle. You are choosing to submit that area of your life back to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)
Step 3: Renounce and Resist
This is the "deliverance" aspect that many people skip. James 4:7 tells us: "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."
If there are areas where you have intentionally or unintentionally given the enemy a foothold: through unforgiveness, involvement in ungodly practices, or even just agreeing with lies about your worth: you must verbally renounce them.
Speak it out loud. There is power in the spoken word. You might say: "In the name of Jesus, I renounce the spirit of fear and the lie that I am never enough. I break every legal right I have given to this cycle in my life."

Step 4: Renew Your Mind with the Word
Breaking a cycle is only half the battle; if you don't fill that space with truth, the old patterns will try to return. This is where renewing your mind bible study becomes your greatest weapon.
Romans 12:2 instructs us not to be conformed to this world but to be transformed by the renewal of our minds. You have to replace the "old tapes" playing in your head with the Truth of God’s Word. If your cycle is rooted in rejection, you must saturate your mind with verses about being chosen and beloved by God.

Step 5: Walk in Newness and Community
Freedom is maintained through daily obedience and healthy relationships. You were never meant to carry your burdens alone. This is why we offer Community Membership and 1:1 Coaching: to provide the accountability and support needed to stay the course.
When you feel the "pull" of the old cycle, reach out to your community. Practice the new habits you’ve learned. Instead of running to your old coping mechanisms, run to prayer or a trusted friend.
As you walk this out, you'll find that the "breaking" wasn't meant to destroy you: it was meant to clear the way for God’s purpose in your life. You can learn more about this journey in Elizabeth's book, The Breaking.

Monday: The Prayer of Awareness
"Heavenly Father, today I ask for the light of Your Holy Spirit to shine into the dark corners of my heart. Reveal the cycles I have been stuck in. Give me the courage to name them and the humility to bring them to You. I choose to stop hiding and start healing. In Jesus’ name, Amen."
Tuesday: The Prayer of Repentance
"Lord Jesus, I confess that I have tried to handle my pain and my patterns in my own strength. I repent for leaning on my own understanding and for any ways I have allowed sin to have a foothold. Wash me clean and give me a heart that is fully surrendered to Your will. Amen."
Wednesday: The Prayer of Renunciation
"In the name of Jesus, I renounce the spirit of [name your struggle, e.g., fear, shame, or anger]. I break any agreement I have made with the enemy’s lies. I declare that I am a new creation in Christ, and the old things have passed away. I claim my freedom today. Amen."
Thursday: The Prayer of Mind Renewal

Friday: The Prayer of Inner Healing
"Lord, I ask You to go back into the memories that still hurt. Touch the wounds of rejection, trauma, or betrayal. I receive Your healing balm. I choose to forgive those who have hurt me, letting go of the debt so that I may walk in the fullness of Your peace. Amen."
Saturday: The Prayer of New Habits
"Holy Spirit, help me to walk in obedience today. When I am tempted to fall back into old cycles, provide the way of escape. Lead me to healthy choices, godly words, and a spirit of self-control. I am no longer a slave to my past; I am a servant of the Living God. Amen."
Sunday: The Prayer of Community and Rest
"Father, thank You for the body of Christ. I pray for my brothers and sisters who are also on this journey. Give us the strength to support one another and the rest we need in Your presence. I enter this new week with confidence, knowing You are with me. Amen."
You don't have to carry the weight of the past anymore. There is a path from pain to purpose, and it starts with a single step of surrender. We are here to walk with you.
